The director who turned a road trip shot in 15 days with no permissions into one of 2025's most celebrated Telugu films. Rohit Penumatsa doesn't wait for permission — he makes the work.
Rohit Penumatsa is a filmmaker who operates entirely on his own terms. As the director arm of Rohit–Sasi, the creative duo behind Avanti Cinema, he has spent nearly a decade making films that prioritise authenticity over formula — slice-of-life stories rooted in the textures of Telangana life that have earned him a devoted following among independent cinema circles across India.
He co-created the cult web series Nirudyoga Natulu (2018) — the show that introduced Avanti Cinema to the world and launched the careers of multiple actors on our roster. As editor (working under the alias Avanti Ruya), director, and co-writer, Rohit wears every creative hat that a project demands.
Double Engine (2024), his feature directorial debut with Vivek Sagar's acclaimed score, announced a filmmaker with a sharp ear for dialogue and an instinct for casting. Gopi Galla Goa Trip (2025), shot across 15 locations from a remote village in Gadwal to the beaches of Goa in just 15 days without official permissions, was received as one of the year's finest Telugu films — praised for its emotional honesty, warm performances, and Ravi Nidamarthy's beautiful music.
He directed Sheeshmahal — a multilingual anthology film originally shot in 2013 that finally received its theatrical release in February 2024. MC Joint represents Rohit for project collaborations, creative partnerships, and bookings.
